Agentic AI for Databases

Agentic AI for databases is the application of autonomous, goal-directed AI to database work: answering open-ended questions, maintaining dashboards, and monitoring data for conditions that should trigger action.

Agentic AI for databases means the AI does not just respond–it pursues an outcome. Three patterns dominate: investigation (chaining queries to answer "why" questions), maintenance (keeping dashboards current without anyone re-running reports), and watching (monitoring metrics and firing alerts when conditions are met). The business value is coverage: an agent checks your numbers every hour whether or not anyone remembered to look. The practical requirement is safety–agents acting on production databases need read-only defaults, validated queries, and clear logs of what they did.
