SSO

Single Sign-On—an authentication scheme that allows users to log into multiple applications with one set of credentials.

In Depth

Single Sign-On (SSO) is an authentication method that enables users to access multiple independent applications with a single set of login credentials and one authentication session. When a user logs into one application, they are automatically authenticated for all other connected applications without re-entering credentials. SSO is implemented through identity providers (IdPs) using protocols like SAML 2.0 (Security Assertion Markup Language), OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), or LDAP. For database tools, SSO enables organizations to centrally manage who has access, enforce password policies, enable multi-factor authentication, and maintain audit trails of access—all through their existing identity provider like Okta, Azure AD, or Google Workspace.
